Currently it is snowing quite hard in and around the Deep Creek Lake Area. Predicted snowfall accumulation might reach 10 inches. However the snow is falling on a wet ground with no base and the ground is thawed.
It doesn’t appear as if this first storm of the year will allow for snowshoeing tours to commence. If we try and snowshoe without an adequate frozen base or sufficient snow amounts the snow just balls up underneath the snowshoes and lifts up. Leaving not much coverage (if any) for the rest of the people following.
However, this snowy weather may make for gorgeous winter hiking this weekend. Come join us for a guided hike Saturday at 9am.
The Wisp is currently making snow. No open date has been announced yet.
